They probably assume that what worked in the past will work now...except Ukraine was part of that meat grinder back then, so they probably have a similar attitude. Lets not kid ourselves they are throwing lots of bodies against the Russians and losing a lot too.

They lost about 8X as many troops as the Germans. Culturally Russia seems to be fine with unnecessary suffering. If anything, it seems to be a point of pride. I've read tons of Russian accounts and being miserable is something they seem to brag about. There is a disconnect between things going very bad for no good reason and actually doing something that makes the next experience less miserable.

From some what I have heard from a number of credible sources is the Russians are taking about 3x casualties compared to the Ukes. Of those about 1 in 2-3 are KIA due to terrible cas evac and front line med care. The Ukes are having a higher survival rate but it's no where near the us of 1 to 7.5 from astan for example. About 60% of the Ukes wounded return to the lines within 30 days according to one interview.
I'm pretty sure the first half of this year is going to be the highest losses on both sides.

My opinion is that the USSR never really died in the minds of the Muscovites, the core of "Russia". For the past 100 years they have been a boil on the planet because of their rotten mob like culture. While things feel apart with the official collapse of the USSR they tried and failed at democracy and went right back into autocracy which is what they know forever. With the weakness of the west the same attitudes were emboldened but this venture went wrong because the years of them fucking with the Ukes turned the Ukes away from them and now they want nothing to do with the Orcs next door. Putin thought nothing changed since 2014 but it was turning against him as the older people died off and the younger ones realized how bad the Orcs were as a culture. They now hate everything about Russia and are going their own way at any price. This is their war of independence much like the US in 1776.
To me, supporting the Ukes is the proper thing to do as a decent human and the only way Russians will break the pattern of inflicting their society on the world is for the core Imperialist concepts of Bolshevism to fail so bad that it's obvious to them that those days are over. A negotiated peace now giving them anything is just giving them a chance to blame the wrong causes and regroup. UA and the world will be much better off when those ideas die. They need to fail bad enough for it to fail but minimize the pain they inflict during the process.

Supporting Ukraine IS the right thing to do. I agree 100 percent. I'm glad that the US and the rest of the world grew some balls and stopped listening to Russia's desperate threats to keep everyone else out of it and to allow Russia to do whatever they wanted. We should have immediately jumped all in with aid.

My concern with sudden shaving regulations is that it may mean they are preparing to use chemical weapons. You can't get a proper seal on a gas mask with a beard.
