  • String gauges.

I'm going to try a different string gauge after watching a couple of videos.

I've always used DR Pure Blues 10s. These are really great strings. They last a long time. They're handmade and they're wound over round cores. That's the way vintage strings used to be made. And the winding is pure nickel.

Newer strings use hexagonal cores and they have nickel coating on them. They sound brighter but they don't last very long. I'm not sure if I'm going to like this or not.

My acoustic guitar I've always used medium lights Earthwood . I didn't mean to get this light gauge for my acoustic. I'm going to stick with the medium gauge and I'm kind of pissed that I accidentally bought these. I clicked the wrong option on Amazon or something.

So the Ernie Ball strings I'm not sure if I'm going to stay with those. But from the video comparisons I've seen, I'll probably switch to lighter gauge strings.

I always went with the 10s because I usually play pretty heavily. I mute the strings and I hit them hard for a lot of what I play. But I can play lighter very easily. The lighter gauge should be a lot cleaner sounding. Less muddy.

I'll probably go with a lighter gauge of the DRS though.

Here are the videos I watched. This is pretty convincing as far as tongue goes. I'm pretty sure these strings won't last very long though. They'll start to lose their top end. But that's why I'm going to switch back to the DR strings

That's what a friend of mine had back in about 1982. Gorgeous guitar. It really is a Les Paul ripoff and I even told him at the time that it was. And he denied it but then later he said yeah it's just a rip off of it Les Paul.

But it's a really good guitar!

  • And I don't mean that dismissively- that's just the phrasing I used to my friend because we liked to argue about stuff. ." That it's just a Les Paul copy". But it was a gorgeous guitar and I was envious of it. It had a beautiful honey colored top that you could see the grain through.

It's a really really good guitar. Just as good or better than a Les Paul. I forget the price. Maybe 400 bucks.

Before the SG Yamaha made what was really almost an exact Les Paul copy. They're called lawsuit guitars now. Because of the lawsuit lol.

The SG is an absolutely great guitar. I think the guitar that I've got is a much much better version of it though. That's why I think that it's a steal at $800. It's a very fine crafted and designed guitar.

  • I just ordered another zoom h4n pro. I used to have the h4n several years ago.

What I plan on doing is using it so that I can record my acoustic guitar at the shop or maybe in other environments and then take it back home to load it into my dad.

I figure the song I'm working on now I can record the guitars with a click track and then just bring them back. I'll probably try using the stereo mic and then also plugged in mic if it will do that at the same time. If not I'll use a dedicated mic and then re-record it again with the stereo mics.

Sluggo I know that you had one of these. Do you still have it?

  • They've got an H8 now! The cool part about the H6 is that it's modular; you can take the x/y condenser array off (very nice sound, by the way) and replace it with a provided binary stereo mic. It also has an optional shotgun or even two more mic pres. I hardly ever use the damn thing. It's a godam tragedy.

  • I just bought one of these on Facebook Marketplace. I'm going to go down and pick it up tomorrow. Then I can throw it in my box of peddles I may need some day.
