Or is that ignorant?
I feel that maybe we could have a bonding thread. We could each come forward, step up to the podium and let the group know what you're ignorant of.
I'll go first.
Okay. Hi everyone! How are we all doin' tonight? Okay, great!
Now before we begin, did everybody get a chance to get a plate? The catering tonight is courtesy of the Pink Piggie. Al, a good friend of mine runs the place. I encourage everyone to stop by his place. He's over on I-10 just past Jefferson on the right. For those of you who've come from out of town, I'm sorry. Al only has one Pink Piggie! You have to load up while your'e in town.
Okay, let's get started.
My name in Gina and I've been a recovering ignorant fuck for about 54 years now. It's not something I'm proud of. It's not really curable but the outpourings, as we call it, can generally be dealt with. Armed with the ability to see them coming, we can usually learn to focus the outpourings in a different direction. I'll give you a recent example.
Recently I had gone into the local tranny shop to pick up a medical book I'd special ordered. I went inside and asked to see the book before I paid for it. Shasta Anne handed me the book and I began to flip through the pages. Immediately I noticed that the book was very technical. I'm telling you, this was like a real medical book. A lot of it was in Latin and it was just way, way over my head. There was no way I could buy this book. I can't understand a word. I was ignorant.
The book was special order and I had a non-refundable deposit on it.
Rather that just outpour my ignorance and tell Shasta that I couldn't read the book, I took a step back. I counted to ten and calmly approached Shasta.
Shasta, I said... you FUCKING ORDERED the WRONG GODDAMN BOOK!!@! Not only that (finger quotes) "Shasta", I saw the way you were looking down at me when I walked in. Give me my GD FUCKING MONEY BACK right the fuck now or I'll get hundreds of people to trash your fucking tranny shop on Yelp!!!!!
Guess what happened? I got my money back and everyone was happy. I was happy because I didn't have to expose my ignorance and Shasta was happy that I wasn't going to have her business trashed on Yelp. Win/Win for everybody.
Do you see what I did in that situation? That's right. I redirected my ignorance into a more positive space.
Okay... we have about 15 people to get to tonight, so I won't hog all the time. Who would like to go next?
