5150 or 5150?

The local shop picked up a batch of unsold 5150's (Iconics) from a shop that closed. Both 1-12 combo's and heads. Same price. Gonna grab one.

Just not convinced which is more desirable. I've got a few cabs, none loaded with the special designed Celestion that's in the combo...not sure if I could even tell.

The heads seem to retail for more so they might be the better "deal" but a nice compact combo is a ton more convenient.

Yeah, well,

I've never been impressed by bespoke celestions...although there are lesser speakers out there. Still haven't gotten around to changing the 70/80 in my DSL40. But I've always been happy with the G12-75. I guess if I were to a,/b with a V30 or creamback or whatever, the distinction would be more evident but I've never been much of a tone chaser. Broad strokes work fine for me.

But I think I'm leaning towards the head for a couple of reasons. Not the least being all the cabs hanging around. Always liked my 610's. They seem to make anything sound good. And if that's not acceptable, there's others I can try.
