RME makes GREAT interfaces. Great company. They keep their stuff updated for decades.

why don't they make the tubes more readily accessable? looks like a pain in the ass to get to them.

Why not build your own pedal? Circuit boards are easy nowadays and cheap.

That's got nothing to do with designing a circuit and soldering it all together. I would like a tubescreamer-like grit but also a seperate boost (about 5-7 db).

Sort of does. I had to look up what tubescreamer meant to implement it. Without a guitar I can't prototype it on a breadboard first, which I almost always do before having some boards manufactured. If you don't, when you're wrong you're wrong in a big way.

The electronics and code are somewhat trivial. You do a layout using stacked headers to make a slot for a Teensy 4.1 and have a SMD sgtl5000 codec that connects to the 1/4" in & out jacks. A couple of JST XH headers onboard to connect whatever display, knobs, or buttons you want to use if any. It's a day project using Flux.AI which makes the PCB design part really, really easy. Then send the resulting "gerber" files to a company like PCBWay and they send back boards finished to whatever level you want. Soldering the SMD's is a bitch, just have somebody in China do that before they ship.

something like that. female header pins for the teensy4.1 so it stands off further and gives clearance, ak4556vt audio codec surface mounted under it does 24bit, 192kHz. 1/4" xlr/stereo in & out, sd card reader, usb power.

add some jst xh connectors to connect knobs & switches. touch screen or a brushless rotary encoder would be trash for live music, looks great, works too slow.

build one and see if it sounds good. Most of them don't sound good. I think it's probably a lot harder than you make it sound - and what Phatz posted - I'd love to you try to make something like that home-made. lol. No fucking way.

All analog, no way. Digital, probably. The Ampero mini & Teensy are both Cortex-M7. They use the same ARM CMSIS-DSP library. I don't know if the Ampero is only capable of 44.1kHz, that's what it's capped at, but the ak4556 will do up 192kHz, both 24-bit.
