I'd like to nail down exactly what you people think the Tinyhanded Retard is up to with these tariffs. Is he trying to use tariffs to bring manufacturing back to the US? Is he trying to use tariffs as a negotiating tactic to force every other country to have zero tariffs? Is he trying to create a situation where there are no trade deficits? I have seen various bootlickers espousing each of these ideas. These ideas seem to be somewhat opposed to each other, and each requires varied levels of commitment to tariffs. So what exactly is the goal and what exactly is the plan to reach that goal?

What Exactly Is The Plan?

I can't think of anything that is "Made in USA" that I'd like or need to buy so this situation doesn't affect me. I'd imagine quite a lot of people in the US are upset. Imagine if you have a niche hobby for which everything you need is imported. Seems to be quite a blow to the Soaring community for example. Or just PC parts as almost everything is manufactured overseas and probably will be for some time to come. For me this only means that all the Chinese stuff will get cheaper so I'm not complaining for now or ever. Everyone should be able to impose duties they see fit.

Canaduh has a 250% tariff on American dairy. Their feigned attempt at gobsmack over reciprocation is hilarz.

I think there's a couple of goals. Number one, I think, for Trump is to stop getting fucked by all of these countries that have large tariffs, and block American business and products .
These tariffs are a tool to force negations on trade.
The US is the golden goose and these countries are all fucking us in one form or another, and Trump has been saying that since the 1980s.

I think a lot of these socialist lite countries look at their tariffs against the US as an evening of the playing field because we're just too goddam good at everything.

Didn't he say that Value Added Tax is a tariff on US products?
-
The US has lost most of its manufacturing ability. We are now the world's largest consumer of, pretty much everything. That fact gives us a great piece of leverage with nobody prior to Trump has dared to use

If a tariff is just another form of tax, then conversely...

Apparently Germany has a value-added tax on everything, imported or otherwise

Yes, most European countries do even medications are not exempt. The US has a Sales Tax but I believe it too doesn't differentiate whether the product is imported or not.
-
The US does not have a national sales tax. Yet.

When OMB starts tossing leftists from aircraft across all the littoral then I'll know he's serious.
-
The goal is pretty simple and based on a historical fact: No country on the entire planet, in all of Human History, has ever survived not making their own products.
