I haven't watched the whole thing yet but... Do you realize how much money it would cost to build a telecaster from all stumac parts?? Holy crap!

My approach is to just buy a really good guitar. I have my Martin acoustic, American deluxe strat, and a Yamaha Revstar RSS20 (been on order for almost a year now). Also the Les Paul that my friend made.
I like to invest in good gear if I'm going to get anything. Can always sell it if I want to change something.
My Strat was GOLD right out of the box. It was set up perfectly, sounds amazing and plays like silk. I'll keep it forever. No comparison from playing just a knockoff, in my opinion. All the components and workmanship that's put into it make it a real gem. It can also do almost anything with it's S1 switching system.
The Revstar will be another GEM. A keeper. Something that I will be very happy with and super versatile.
My next thing might be an American Fender bass. Probably the Ultra P-bass. Bit that's off in the future.
I figure by the time I mess around with a bunch of shit guitars I could have just bought a really great guitar and be happier with the end result.
I've had my strat out recording over the past few days. I still can't believe how nice it is. how nice it looks, feels and sounds.

This is the most sensible thing to do. Unless you like fucking around with stuff.

and what is this "Sell it" thing you speak of?

I'm in the "fuck around with shit" dept. I get a tremendous sense of satisfaction from building something. Plus, I'm poor af. My telecaster which I built from a $100 kit is the nicest guitar I have. Although, I've replaced everything on it. Next is a neck. However, when I'm done I'll still only have about $600 into it.

I didn't mean to say that it was not cool to be modifying guitars and building them from scratch just for the fun of doing that. And also for the practicality of it. Like you sluggish, I'm sure you got a really really good guitar for only 600 bucks. I didn't mean to disparage that type of thing. I was more speaking to what this guy seems to be doing. Like buying every single part and building a bunch of guitars from the ground up.
At the point where you're doing it till like 5:00 or 6 guitars you've got a very nice guitar that you could have bought. That's kind of what I meant.

For $600 you could still put together a decent guitar from Stu Mac although the price of good pickups has gone through the roof. You could spend nearly $600 on them alone.
I think this would be a great guitar that wouldn't need anything changed for $500

Would it be better than the Mexican Strat for another $100?

Better pickups, locking tuners and the Wilkinson trem are a big upgrade from a Mexican strat.

Did you buy both of those? I don't have a sense of scale. One giant and one super small?
-
I bought the normal length one about six months ago. Then I tried to order another one a few weeks ago.
-
I had one just like that about thirty-five years ago. It was totally rad.
