Few businesses in the US even provide sick days much less a week or two weeks of sick leave. You are just going to loose your job, your apartment, your car. I just read an article about nurses at hospitals being required to use vacation and sick days to pay for being out from catching Covid from work.

a million tests sit and go out of date in storage when people can't find a test so they can

I agree with some of that, especially .govs wastefulness. But most businesses threw their attendance policies out the door over a year ago. Workers are just too hard to replace these days. As far a healthcare workers having to use their PTO time first, that makes sense. Because .gov isn't paying for it anymore. And as shitty as it is, our healthcare system is for profit. That is their #1 priority. And personally I've thought it really is pretty simple. Like a friend told me about 2 years ago, don't be a dirty bastard. Wash your hand, don't cough and sneeze around people and stay home when you're sick. That's really the most useful things we can do. Other than that just carry on living life.

When the numbers got too high some died due to lack of proper treatment. If they didn't shut down many people would not have been able to get treatment and deaths would have been much higher. This seemed to be the standard protocol in most countries too. Once the vaccine came out and enough were vaccinated, they could open back up. At least that seemed to be the thingking at the time.

Yeah not so sure about that. Remember when Trump had the big 3 looking into making ventilators and had hospital ships sent and emergency field hospitals erected? None were ever used, they just sat empty because no hospitals were overwhelmed. As far as ventilators go, yeah fuck that. They killed more people than the saved. Very very few that ever went on one came out alive. They usually died from septic shock caused by the vent.

That's what they told us but it really had no effect on the number of people getting sick or dying.
This was a new virus and NO ONE had any immunity to it so maybe we should just be glad it wasn't as deadly as smallpox. Think of the carnage that would have happened then. Native American tribes anyone?
