also, that was just one old brick. They were not consistent by any means. New bricks are very consistent and made to meet modern safety standards.

In Texas most houses were built with brick from the early 1900's forward. Certainly not all but very common. Bricks are rarely used here to build anything. Commented on that to my son-in-law our first visit here long ago. He noticed the same thing when he visited us in Texas. He said he thought it was the cost of shipping them here. Why we still pay too much for gas here.

But it's easier for the the old man to shake his fist at the sky "THEY DON'T MAKE THINGS LIKE THEY USED TO!!!1"
In many cases that old man shaking his fist is correct. In other cases, not so much.
Take cars for instance. When I was growing up you could expect to start burning oil at around the 100,000 mile mark even if you did your oil changes on time, every time. Today, engines can easily last well over 300,000 miles. This would be a case of the old man being incorrect.
Take cars as an example again. 60's to early 70's era muscle cars, we'll likely never see their like again, at least not in the numbers of different makes/models or in the raw power some of them produced.
-
Well you'd be wrong about that too.
Common production cars have never produced as much horsepower as they do today.
-
The average guy could tune up his own car in the 60's. Now they don't need tuneups. WTF?!
-
You can't go by factory statements on horsepower ratings from the muscle car era because many times they fudged the numbers due to high insurance costs for cars that insurance companies felt were over powered.
Take the 302 powered 69 Z28 for example. Chevy rated that motor at 290 hp but independent testers put it on a dyno and rated it at 350 hp. This was common for car manufacturers during that era.

Another case of the old man shaking his fist being wrong.
Our Honda has 140,000 miles on it and just had the spark plugs replaced for the first time.

Technology has accelerated. It may continue doing so but Americans will probably be a diminishing factor in that based on our educational system today.

Fixed.
You're welcome.

One of my brothers is a hard core Leftist. Haven't talked to him in years.
-
Even adjusted for number fudging, today's cars out perform those from any other era by a large margin.
