What happened to that game thread?
-
Tell me how you really feel.
Finally.
-
Post a youtube video of your UO exploits or it didn't happen. You know I'm not afraid to share my adventures.
-
So why aren't you playing UO?
-
I've been dabbling in games and programming since there were computers while you were in school. Presumptuous you are in pigeon holing me.

Salaried employees have long been worked long hours. There are no chains though. Anyone can walk away. Unions serve a purpose but have also driven our industry overseas.
-
I played World of Warcraft for years. It's all about grinding.
Ultima Online is long dead. I guess you could host your own bootleg server.
I never liked crowds.

Games like Ultima Online, World of Warcraft, etc... are time based games. By that I mean your ability to achieve goals and beat up other players is almost entirely based on how much time you have spent grinding for levels and gear. Skill is a factor but minimally. DCS on the other hand is entirely based on skill. A first time noob can enter the arena with exactly the same gear and "skill points" as a seasoned veteran. The only difference is in knowledge and ability. Apples and Oranges. I like both.
-
DCS has no quests. No missions but what you make or choose. You can join a server and fly around and kill people very much like Aces High.
Valheim is not like any game you have played.
-
Wouldn't you rather fight and build on a server with 10 friends than 200 people you don't know?
-
Probably Russians. They run Warbirds servers too.

I've liked games for over 60 years but they all have a reset button. Unlike real realife®.

I remember him repeatedly wacking away mindlessly at a training pole to increase a stat. Set him him up with a macro to automate that. I was not always the best influence.
-
i didn't play the game but I remember him complaining and then looking at it to suggest a solution. It's all good.
-
no one did it. No reason to. I never saw it happen.
You were a ghost and could go somewhere else and get resurrected. They would not know where you went.
Your experience was different from his then. He played at the beginning. Maybe you were later?
-
World of Warcraft was less painful in that regard which is probably why many millions of people played it for almost two decades now. Though as a mage I hated having a rogue pop up from stealth on me while I was leveling alone. Bastards.
-
You were resurrected where you were killed right? If I killed you I could just stay there waiting for you and kill you again. That's griefing and people did it.

Throughout the 90's I had a room for my computer and that of my youngest son. He played the adventure games I didn't have time for then. Baldour's Gate was one of his favorites. I remeber him getting frustrated when someone would kill him and camp his body in Ultima Online. I suggested he quit playing. He didn't until Everquest came along. Then briefly World of Warcraft. College and all the accouterments became much more interesting.
That's him on the far right. Coincidentally he was a member of the same fraternity the guy who was killed with the three girls in Idaho a month ago.

The beginning of Ultima 4 in the 80's where you answered a series of questions to determine your starting character attributes created a genre that persists. I love nostalgia.
