If you are supposed to qual ... then qual. I think the armorer should get a medal for outing a poser that probably had someone do his quals.
Fair, but seeing most quals especially while on board a ship I'd wager (seeing the IPSC/whatever cardboard targets on stands at 25m and closer on the helo deck), I could qual just point shooting I'd bet. I bet that Captain hadn't shouldered a rifle very much over the years
My cousin was just down from his RCMP post for a family reunion dinner this last weekend. He used to be a civilian firearms firearms instructor at Depot (where all RCMP are trained initially for 8 months or a year, I forget how long. He was offered a promotion to a higher position, but didn't want to take it as he felt without ever wearing a badge he wouldn't be respected enough, so at 41 he went into the pipeline with all the 20 year old rookies to become an RCMP officer and actually passed it near top of the class. Anyhow, he's in my town here taking a course to be evaluated as an instructor in a different field right now, but still does all the qual training for the units in his area which is about 15 detachments.
He told me the "new" RCMP qualification standards. Ok. Try not to laugh, and don't spread this around online too much.
7 meters. 6 rounds. 8 seconds from duty holster.
Ok, right. I was sitting there waiting for the punch line when he said this.
Are you fucking serious?
Ya, standards, DEI to the rescue!!
Here's a pic of Joe, I'm proud of him, he's a mechanic tinkerer and a shooter, his dad is even more of a shooter, got him into handguns/AR type rifles and he has a bunch of them, and just waiting for the other foot to drop up here regarding the ban etc like the rest of us...
Anyhow, that's my aunt and her new BF, my uncle passed about a year before my father did a few months back, and he's great, he was an NHL scout for 20 plus years and knows a ton about hockey, fun to talk to. The dog is my cousin's who lives with my aunt about 2 blocks from my dad's place, and it's nice knowing there is a police trained fur missile in their house for defense (among other things). Joe stayed with her for a couple nights and at my dad's place for one, having his work truck in the driveways will hopefully cut down on the prowling meth addicts in this town at night. He had to drive a work truck here as all the admin cars were booked, which meant he had to be in uniform as well as the truck has the rifle/shotgun combo that RCMP victors do now. Storch will like their sidearms, 5946 Smiths, rifle is Colt Canada's hammer forged barrel M4. Of course, HQ/White shirts are looking at going to a newer design, Smith M/P in 9mm with a dot optic on it. IMO they should just stick with the 5946, with the whole "ain't broke, don't fix" mentality, plus polymer framed handguns have always had more failure points just due to the whole plastic and 20,000 rounds +++ thing, no matter what anyone says (had a range that put 1 million rounds of 9/40/45 Winchester white box handgun ammo through it's rental rack every quarter. Year. Seen a lot of what breaks over and does not break over time, and LE firearms see a LOT of time/use (everything breaks with enough time))
