World war II was a lot different. That was complete armies and navies and offensive operations and all kinds of things considered.

Operating as a defense force is a lot different in my opinion. Most of them already operate in NATO and the article states that they're going to use principles from NATO already in use.

So they'll have communications between all of them and those planes stationed all over the place will probably be optimized for whatever they need to do. Mostly defense I would guess.
