Yeah. It takes a mental exercise to recall but also an ear to discover who's sound you might be listening to.
It's really a producer's thread. Just as you can almost tell who's on guitar in a note or two you (well I) can sometimes guess who produced a song.
Production can make or break a tune.
Look at Bette Davis eyes for instance.
Co-written by Jackie DeShannon in the early seventies and a far different compostion, arrangement and production. It failed.
Enter Val Garay and team. Poof. A hit.
Anyway I suck as a musician but I enjoy music, the nuts and bolts of a thing and the history.
