People are complaining about how DRA is being increasingly hostile to his audiences. I feel that the frustration lies in people not knowing how to behave in public anymore AND being overserved. The downside of this is that many people will now push his buttons just for the reaction. At one point during the show while people were shouting song titles between songs he told us "you know... we've got what we feel is a pretty good setlist here... it's almost like the show was pre planned.. maybe you people should start your own fucking band, then you can play whatever songs you want." I REALLY connect with his frustration. I just play in a shitty cover band, but people CANNOT just sit back and enjoy the ride. They come up to the stage.. at an obviously pre-planned show.. asking for requests.. and fucking STAND there. Oblivious that there's a fucking show going on! They want you to stop the show so they can talk to you and beg for whatever shitty standard they can't live without.. I will NOT stop a show to talk to some moron, I don't give a fuck how cute she is... and somehow, that makes ME the asshole.
John, the bassplayer.. He can't help himself. the guy can barely play with his full attention.. He CAN'T play while chatting up some drunk fucking asshole.. but he just WILL NOT ignore them. There's been many times when he literally STOPS PLAYING!!?! to argue with some fucking idiot as to why we will not play mustang sally (or whatever).

1981 James Taylor presented at the acoustically perfect Sunrise Musical Theater. The opening act was Randy Newman. Having just come from the west coast and having seen him open before I knew his style. He likes audience interaction.
So when he asked for requests I reply. Again. Then again...forty or so minutes into this he says ok enough, JT is giving me dirty looks.

There are three live Giles albums. All three, in full or in part... were recorded in Detroit. The third, "Showtime", was recorded at Pine Knob.. at the height of their pop "success".. It's REALLY not good. Wolf left shortly after and the keyboard player (who had been writing the "hits") took over frontman position. Yuck.
