So what is the name of the maneuver you'd see really good players do in AH dogfights ? The one where you'd be turning and burning with someone (almost in your gunsight) on their six, and they'd level wings - go up a very short distance, then spin around 360 degrees very quickly while out of E (yaw plane of motion) and shoot you dead.

I'd see guys pull this off only rarely, and I've never been able to figure out how they do it. They'd do it a lot in Corsairs in particular, and I think they'd have full flaps down. They'd be going very very slowly, like stall speed, but they'd turn around very fast and bring their guns right on you, near point blank.

You know what I mean right - like you're going very very slow, both out of E, then they do this very violent spin... like one second you are on their six, then they spin around 180 like top, and they shoot you in the face.

I always wondered if it was legit, or some kind of exploit they figured out (or a cheat). I've tried to replicated it and have never been able to.

Seen more than one plane do it, but the Corsair seems to be the one I remember the most.

Yeah they'd stop turning, go straight, pull up just a bit, and flip around 180 in the yaw plane of motion (on a slight angle). I had it on film a few times, studied it closely, never been able to figure out how they did it. It's either some super cool secret move, or a cheat. Who knows.

Depends on the planes rudder authority I think. One of the early spits, with auto trim and combat trim off, you could stand on the rudder one side and force a flat spin for it'd snap out completely. I think it's a quirk from the parametric flight model they use.

Flat Plate... you'll have to look for it yourself. I think Toad may have a better idea than I . It's a controlled flat spin of sorts.
