Just try that neck and see if it's playable. If it is, great. If not, you gotta do what ya gotta do.

I've asked a bunch of people why p90s aren't more popular and all I get are shrugs. They are susceptible to hum, but they seem to have the articulate tone of a single coil with the girth and breakup of a humbucker (best of both worlds). I'm either going to love this thing or my expectations will leave me underwhelmed. On a side-note, the neck my friend gave me is rough. The trussrod was bottomed out (no big deal, just add a washer or two) and it's got a bit of a twist. Not too bad but noticeable by eyeball. Someone added a brass nut, slotted seemingly to compensate (for the twist) and someone did a radical fret level (again to compensate for the twist), leaving very little fret at the first position on the low E side... I've got a nice Strat neck that will work too but I REALLY wanted to use this authentic original Jazzmaster neck...
If I was going to give P90s a bad wrap for anything, it would be that they can be very sharp when you start piling the gain on. I still use my P90 LP copy a lot.

I think P90s bite more than single coils and have more mid range and sound dirtier. So they're pretty good for a rock tone bur they also get kind of a single coil sound too.

I'm really not a high-gain guy at all, mostly clean right at breakup, and that seems to be right where p90s shine.

Yeah. And here in Los Angeles, offer up is really good. I love it because you can sort it by miles away from you. I usually sort it by the shortest distance. Which is 5 mi.
I find stuff all the time on there.

I just watched this vid by KDH and I got curious. I checked out there website and they do heaps of handwired amps. I wonder what sort of money you are looking at.
