My first modern box, I had a ssd JUST for winblows, everything ELSE (Except AH, of course) went on a big drive that got all the programs. THEN, I got yet aNOTHER BIGGER drive just for shit like music, photos, videos
I"ma Computer Illiterate.

I've got the 500 gb ssd with windows on it, a 1 tb internal platter, added another 4 tb platter for more storage, now adding the 2 tb ssd for more program files...
-
I uninstalled DCS MFS and AHIII and suddenly I don't really need any extra space...
-
Well look at that.
-
You should post that in Oh Clubbed

Consider a new C drive when you decide it's time to bite the bullet and go from Windows 10 to 11 and do a fresh install. It doesn't hurt to have a TB C drive, lots of temporary but space consuming shit like downloads & trashcans defaults to it.
-
The one that's named K was supposed to be the new C but it seems like it would be a huge and dangerous hassle. I used to have to reformat every year or two... Since I've stopped using any antivirus (besides Defender) I haven't had to reformat once. I'm going to delay going to 11 for as long as I can; I've got some legacy hardware that may not be supported. Plus, I plan to let all you Moes beta test it for a while.
-
Yeah I learned my lesson about having a smallish c drive. One terabyte at least.
Too much stuff gets downloaded to the main drive by default and it's hard to try to move shit later and keep it organized.

I paid $32 for a 1TB WD blue drive for a jobsite last week
-
I have a 4TB western Digital Black as my C drive. I got mine for 300 when they were 700 on Newegg.
I used to have a 1TB but it kept filling up with junk like Gina said. So I fixed that little red wagon.
-
I need to go to 4TB on C from the 1 I have now. It used to be a simple script project was a 2kb text file. Now when you make a web project, a 20 line project ends up bundling an entire linux operating system into the project to make the "container" you can run on a cloud service, so 3 versions later and 40 whole lines of code, you've got 4 gb used.
I can't imagine the audio some of you guys do is any better on storage.

I went with m.2 drives on the computer I built about a year ago.

That's what my 4TB drive is and it's one of the last things I did with the cash I got from the house.
-
Those lil bitty M2 things have a high failure rate as Windows drives in NVR's I've found
-
NVRs should not be used with SSDs. SSDs have limited write cycles. Shorter lifespan than a NVR rated hard drive, I would think
-
Nah, you only use them for the operating system. Fuckers (the M2's) have a higher failure rate than regular SSD's or standard drives
-
According to Google, yer wrong.
-
They're ALSO a pain the the fucking ass to replace, as you have to pull the machine out of the rack and pop the cover, as opposed to pulling the drive out the front
-
m.2s get really hot. Could be that they are not properly installed.
