According to Newt Gingrich, McCarthy had gotten 70% of his agenda through the House. Seems to me that he was reasonably effective at accomplishing what he had promised to do.
I think the last straw was that he went off on his own and behind their backs to make a deal with Biden and the Dems on the budget extension - giving the dems everything they wanted.
I think it's funny that the dems didn't bail him out either. Because they're pissed at him for the impeachment proceedings.
