It's OK because Gina has been proof listening as I've developed my formula... She's already heard it.
Big things are afoot. If I don't fuck this up this could be my second half/twilight career.
I answer an ad in the back of Rolling Stone in 1993. I was freshly divorced, just out of the Army, living with my parents (25 years old) It was one of those START YOU DREAM CAREER IN BROADCASTING thingys... I called the number and left my callback info.. the next day this dude with a great radio voice called me back and started qualifying me. Radio was different then,, it was STILL a BIG money player. It was a legit program. What they did was locate and assign UNPAID interns for local stations around the country. He said "you'll start by sweeping the floor and getting coffee but part of the station's obligation is train you in a field of your choice" (engineering, marketing, admin, on-air, etc).
It would have been difficult because I needed to make money too.. In my lazy broken brain way, I "thought on it" to the point of procrastination and eventually forgot about it. I think coming into this as a mature adult with realistic expectations gives me a leg-up.
Too many times we (I) go into something with a romanticized notion of something I really don't know about only to find out that a job is a fucking JOB and if it was truly as glamorous as my expectations people would do it for free. My analogy is... visiting a porno set only to find it DOESN'T smell like expensive french perfume...

You have a great radio voice Slug - seriously.
-
Thanks! I've been told that before... I don't believe I could ever be a live on the air DJ. I can SOMETIMES flow (speaking) but as soon as I start thinking about it, I lock up, start stuttering and stammering... I like doing a prerecorded show. I can take the time needed to get everything just right. Transitions and flow are EVERYTHING (besides compelling content). EVERYTHING you hear me say on my show is scripted and edited to tighten gaps. Also, enunciation is important. When I did my first demo listening back I realized that my "street voice" isn't good enough (marble-mouthed rube). I actually do a few tongue, lip, jaw loosening exercises before I record. I'm still not where I want to be, but it's getting better.

Great radio FACE too....

It comes with doing it over and over again. Do it enough, it's second nature.

Well, to be brutally honest, he'd have to pack on about 80-100lbs min (the unhealthy kind) and grow a fucked up neck beard.

I think you going to do so great!
You know I set my alarm because I took a nap and I did wake up at 6:00 but I was delirious. I woke up in a panic when I heard the phone going off and I thought it was my alarm for the morning and I was saying Alexa stop Alexa stop. Because I use Alexa for my alarm. But I was like slurring my words like I wasn't even awake yet. And then I just shut it off and crashed again.

I think that's my favorite Simpson's clip of all time.

Okay. Gearing up for tonight's show!
Hopefully I will be awake still by 6pm (left coast)
-
The program director has assured me that tonight's show will be archived on the website in its original wav format for re-listening in full fidelity.... We'll see. I told her that I would like to come into the studio to see how the broadcast signal gets into the the interweb tubes (hopefully she know that when I say things like that I'm deliberately being goofy) because the stream quality is a big deal and should be AT LEAST as good as the terrestrial broadcast...
This is a good show. My BEST to air so far. Next week's is even better. Next week's show is the first that I feel accomplishes what I think is my vision of what a show that appeals to the music junkies, the casual listeners AND the desperate musicians who think they should be famous should be.
We shall see.
