Magnetic levitation.

what keeps the magnets in line?
That's a great question. The two opposing magnetic fields are dome shaped, very slippery domes. It would be impossible to have any stability just balancing magnets on top of each other. This was just an experiment to prove that the field is powerful enough to levitate a nearly forty pound turntable.. The finished product will have a non-ferrous "centering rod" through the middle of each magnet and protruding up into the bottom of the plinth...
This won't be pure levitation, and won't completely isolate the turntable (the rod will be touching the sides of the magnets and the sides of the shaft into the plinth), but it's still a pretty cool idea...

Rod? Shaft? Touching? Plinth?
We’re you ever in the navy by chance?
-
Think of the plinth as your chair.

We didn’t have chairs.
