House of Pain.. Wasn't there like three different white irish "badass" rap groups out at exactly the same time?

And that was a great great album. They never reached that peak again.
They use reverb and delay and all that but you just don't hear it as an effect in the mix so much. I like that style of mixing. Sounds big in its own way but it doesn't sound washed out. You can crank it up and everything hits hard still. I don't like music that's mixed with too much of a reverb that you can actually hear as reverb. It needs to be there for sure though otherwise the song is just dry.

I was mixing songs like that in the '80s. My friend Todd called me anti-effects. Lol.

I see Pearl Jam has been having stand in drummers at shows because Matt Cameron has the 'vid. One of them was Dave Crusen, the guy who played on Ten and Vs... Ed fired him for his politics.
Ed Vedder hobbled the greatest rock band of the Nineties because he didn't like the drummer's politics. How fucking selfish is that? Of course, the shows Dave played on were recorded but Ed will make sure the tapes never see the light of day. Even though with Dave's heavier style the band was probably driven harder than they have been in years.
Fuck Eddie Vedder.

He's a self centered fuck munch. Remember that video he released a while ago him drinking at his house? Making up some kind of a drink? Totally just an attention whore. A fuck face

"Glorified G" was directly written at Dave. With Dave in the room. And Dave playing on it.

Blood Sugar Sex Majik was the first super popular album (that I was aware of) that used (what I've come to call) a "clinical" approach to music production... Very spare use of polishing techniques (reverb, delay, wide stereo separation, etc.) That would become very quickly the industry standard with grunge and even up to today... I did not care for it. I had a very nice Pioneer surround receiver at the time that had a "hall" setting that gave music a (very processed sounding) larger depth that i would use whenever I listened to it... I've over the years come to like it. A little...
I listened to some of the album last night. Just on YouTube so I'm not sure if it was missing a lot of quality, but you're right. Not a great production. The snare is kind of off on it's own with reverb and the mix is a little thin and compressed.
The songs didn't age well either. I like Breaking the Girl and Give it Away still but really, the vocals on that album really suck. Out of tune in places. Just not good singers.
The Power of Equality - I cringe when that chorus hits with that out of tune mess of vocals. lol. And that stupid ass rap shit.
A lot of songs are shit.

People don't give a shit about music as an artform any more? Did they ever? there have been renaissances of popular music correlating with higher art, but mostly it's just a packaged product. It seems unfair. A guy like Ray LaMontagne should be as big as Dylan, but because he was born at the wrong time for his art, he's relegated to the second stage. I'm not saying a guy like Dylan shouldn't be revered, but if not for his existing at exactly the right moment, no one would know who he is.

I always love how these list articles get it wrong. This one isn't bad though...

She seems like fun. Good on Fripp...

"Four, three, two, one..."
Major Tom, Peter Schilling. Answer song? Novelty song? Legit?
I always liked it.
Earth below us, drifting falling, floating weightless...
COMING HOME...
That hook at the end is right up there with the greatest of the greatest. That's what magic is made of.

Foo Fighter? Done? Dave has the worst luck, for being a lucky bastard.

A lot of people look at Lionel Ritchy as some sort of cool guy. I can't get past him ditching the Commodores. Fuck that guy.
-
Back in Black the best AC/DC album? Luckily, a lot of the tunes (maybe all) were well into development before Bon kicked off.
-
Duran Duran was pretty good. That Rio album was awesome. They had hot chicks in their videos too...
-
I can see how that Jack station could be a really good running SoCal soundtrack.
-
The main guy in Cracker came out of Camper Van Beethoven. Their cover of Pictures of Matchstick Men was the best version. I bought their Kerosene Hat album for the song Low but the best song was hidden way at the end.. Eurotrash Gurl.

So... The guys in the Verve had the audacity to use a loop of a Jagger/Richards composition (not even a sample of the Stones record, a sample of an instrumental recording that their manager made) so they lost ALL the songwriting royalties to their ONLY big hit. They (the Stones) have since had a change of heart and have allowed them to regain songwriting credit... AFTER most all of the cash has been squeezed from this twenty year old song.
Fuck Mick and Keef.
