I never really bought records in my life. Only a very few actual LPS or vinyl records.
I remember when I was 11 years old I rode my bike a few miles over to my friend's house to trade him for his jive talking single. I forgot what I gave for it but I came home with my jive talking record single. LOL.
Then when I was 14 or so and staying with my grandparents in San diego, I bought a kiss album. I think it was kiss alive 2.
Then in the 1982 or 3 era I had changes one Bowie. The original changes one Bowie not the one that they've altered now that have different tracks. And then I bought Low just for the song sound and vision.
And the white album. And I remember buying the White album in the record store in the mall. Paradise valley Mall which is torn down now.
I think that's the extent of my record collection.
Around 1974 or so I bought my mom Elton John's greatest hits album for her birthday.

That's a band I recognize without resorting to my Googler.

I don't believe I've heard of either of those bands.

You've heard of Herbie Hancock but Dead Meadow is pretty underground.
-
Off the top of my head, Herbie Hancock doesn't ring any bells, not even mine.

He had a HUGE hit back in the eighties...

When I was 16, I got my first job--washing dishes at the Hayloft Dinner theatre in Manassas. Miserable miserable miserable place, mostly owing to these 2 Iranian chefs. Anyhow I told them to fuck off after the third day, took my $18 paycheck and bought the White Album

Phatzo mentioned being a Devo fan, I wasn't and likely didn't listen to radio stations that played this.
