There are slightly more on Oryx: 118, a lot of the difference is that the Warspotting number does not include damaged, or abandoned equipment that is over a year old without a second photo to show where it ended up.

At least 6 Russian planes were destroyed at Morozovsk airfield

At the Russian Morozovsk airfield in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, at least 6 aircraft were destroyed as a result of a drone attack.

An informed source told hromadske about this.

In addition to the six destroyed, 8 more aircraft were significantly damaged. And about 20 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded.

According to our interlocutor, the attack on the Morozovsk airfield was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine together with the military and the Defense Forces.

Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 front-line bombers were based at the airfield — these are the types of aircraft Russia uses to drop guided aerial bombs on the positions of the Armed Forces and Ukrainian frontline cities.

The airfield came under attack on the night of April 5 . Eyewitnesses reported numerous drones and counted more than 60 explosions. Electricity supply was interrupted in several districts of the Rostov region. The governor said that in the Morozovsky district, air defense forces allegedly destroyed more than 40 targets.

This airfield was already attacked by drones on December 17, 2023 . At least one plane was damaged at the time. The hromadske source said that it was a joint special operation of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Armed Forces.

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg: We expelled Russian personnel from NATO headquarters

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: "NATO is and will remain the cornerstone of European security." Stoltenberg also drew attention to the importance of Turkey, while saying that Russian personnel working at NATO headquarters were doing intelligence work and were fired for this reason.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russian personnel working at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, were fired for doing intelligence work.

In a statement to Bild newspaper, Stoltenberg stated that they will continue to protect European allies and said, "NATO is and will remain the cornerstone of European security."

Stating that NATO's purpose is not to fight, Stoltenberg said, "NATO's purpose is to prevent war. And we have been doing this successfully for 75 years."

Assessing whether the European Union (EU) needs an army, Stoltenberg said, "The EU has NATO. European NATO allies also have NATO. 96 percent of people living in the EU live in a NATO country. Therefore, NATO is an organization that ensures the protection of European NATO allies. NATO exists to defend Europe. But, of course, we welcome the EU's efforts to increase defense production, overcome the fragmentation of the European defense industry, and increase defense spending among European NATO allies," he said.

Stoltenberg answered the question "Do you think that Russia's intelligence activities have become more active in Europe in recent years?" as follows:

"We see that Russian intelligence services have been operating in European countries for many years. We also see that they are making attempts to increase their activities. Of course, NATO allies are following this very closely. We have also taken a number of measures to make it more difficult for Russian security intelligence services to carry out illegal activities between or within NATO allied countries. NATO has a lot of work to do on intelligence sharing among its allies. We also expelled Russian personnel from NATO headquarters because we saw that they were carrying out activities that were not diplomatic work, but intelligence work."

STOLTENBERG DREW ATTENTION TO THE IMPORTANCE OF TURKEY

Pointing out that NATO allies are supplying F-16s to Ukraine, Stoltenberg said, "The fact that NATO allies are supplying F-16s and also providing training and weapons for F-16s is another example of the important military support that NATO allies provide to Ukraine."

  • China Providing Geospatial Intelligence to Russia, US Warns

Blinken briefed European allies on scope of Chinese support

China said to have stepped up help for Russian war on Ukraine.

The US is warning allies that China has stepped up its support for Russia, including by providing geospatial intelligence, to help Moscow in its war against Ukraine.

Amid signs of continued military integration between the two nations, China has provided Russia with satellite imagery for military purposes, as well as microelectronics and machine tools for tanks, according to people familiar with the matter.

China’s support also includes optics, propellants to be used in missiles and increased space cooperation, one of the people said.

Spokespeople for the White House National Security Council declined to comment. China’s foreign ministry didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment during a holiday weekend.

Beijing has sought to portray itself as mostly neutral in the face of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, now into its third year, yet it’s established a deep alliance with Moscow as part of what Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin termed a “no limits” friendship ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

Trade between the two countries reached a record $240 billion in 2023. Russia’s neighbor has become the supplier of everything from clothes to machinery and cars after an exodus of Western manufacturers and multiple rounds of sanctions. At the same time, Russia has boosted exports of commodities such as coal and oil to China.

Crucially, China and Hong Kong have also become key gateways for Moscow to access restricted technologies, including chips and integrated circuits, used in weapons or needed to build them. The US and European Union have listed several Chinese firms for enabling those transfers, but the trade shows little sign of dropping off.

Last year, the Biden administration also sanctioned a Chinese company for providing satellite images to a Russian technology firm which in turn then supplied them to the Wagner mercenary group.

Beijing has also yet to indicate whether it will participate in a summit Ukraine has been organizing to agree on key principles upon which to build a future peace settlement with Russia.

China’s support for Russia has deepened in recent months, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private matters. Secretary of State Antony Blinken briefed European allies this week on the scope and significance of China’s support and on the need to do more to curtail it, one of the people said.

Blinken asked allies to raise the problem directly with China and to take actions against Chinese entities and companies, another person familiar with the discussions said.

The Financial Times first reported some of the messages communicated by Blinken at meetings with NATO allies.

The US and its allies will be looking to convey their concerns to Beijing and to ramp up efforts to crack down on China’s support for Russia’s defense industry, the people said.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also warned of “significant consequences” this week if companies, including those in China, were found to provide material support for Russia’s war against Ukraine and its military-industrial base.

The worries come as Ukraine faces a critical artillery shortage and its allies are flailing in their efforts to resupply Kyiv. Russia, meanwhile, has been able to boost its domestic arms production, continues to import key components via a network of third countries, and is getting shells and other weaponry from the likes of North Korea and Iran.

The Biden administration previously warned Beijing not to provide Russia with weapons, and there’s no sign it has so far done so.
