He said it to Jay Leno. It will use cold gas thrusters, a High Pressure Air system with a nozzle behind the license plate. The math from their is rudimentary Physics 1 so many engineers broke it down and you can do it too.
Elon Musk Claims The New Tesla Roadster Hits 60 MPH In Less Than One Second
-
-
Well I don't know how it breaks down mathematically, but if it is cold gas thrusters they only have to output for one second or less than one second. So I don't know how much of a huge tank you would need for that.
I don't think that Elon musk has a history of just flat out lying about performance. I think he's been pretty accurate about things he said in the past.
-
They speculate that each thruster would put out about 400 lb of thrust. So with all 10 that's 4,000 lb of thrust..
The roadster is supposed to weigh about 2,700 lb.
The pressurized air tank will sit where the back seat normally would be on the regular roadster edition. Supposedly.

You'll need something at least the size of a standard water heater with a massive valve. It'll have to be pressurized to 6000 psi. Then once it's there taking up way too much space and weight on a hypercar which can't afford it, you have to charge the thing so you have to tow your support trailer to the field with a large generator to run the compressor which has to be connected to a dozen more of those bottles to form a cascade system capable of pressuring it in a reasonable amount of time on a track day.
He has a history of just flat out lying in general. There's a website that catalogs it all. It's loaded with over the top leftist techtopia nonsense to farm subsidies from Democrats and pump stocks. He's the best ever at it.
-
and you can't put the compressor in the car. too big, too heavy for one that can recharge it in the owners lifetime. you have to use cascades, which are really big and really heavy and have to be relegated to a support vehicle.
-
so you're saying Musk is full of shit?
-
His own lawyers already said it, and then he said it in court. His tweets can't be taken seriously. He says a lot of stuff on Twitter though lol.

"Composite over-wrapped pressure vessel". aka, a giant paintball gun air tank.

-
So you guys or at least Indy, you're going on record saying that musk is full of shit? Just want to be clear. Lol.
We will see I guess.
-
I'm not saying he's full of shit, but halving the 0 - 60 time is a steep goal.
-
Obviously it's going to be with rockets. Indy seems to be saying that he's full of shit and that he won't be able to put rockets in that car because the tank would have to be too big and other things.
I just don't think musk is pulling shit out of his ass. He usually comes very close to what he claims

I know Indycar can hit 5G's in a bank at Iowa. I know F1 can max up to 3G's at a full speed flat turn with downforce.
Even taking the (reduced) speed of 2 seconds to 60, that's still ~1.37G's. The best street tires are at 1G. So something is still up.
-
Sounds like a modern Pinto.

So how do you think the stock plaid s can do 2 seconds?

So how do you think the stock plaid s can do 2 seconds?
I've always wondered about this.
I have not done any investigating, but thought it might be like the reverse of anti-lock brake technology, or limited slip, or ??
-
Traction control? Most definitely. You can't fully optimize this much horsepower without it. However, not even traction control can convince physics to relinquish its grip on reality.
-
Not the most aerodynamic car he could have picked
But it's a Lincoln MK IV with wings!!!
Might as well be the Starship Enterprise!

I would guess that it would only take a relative short distance of "slip" before it was not needed for grip to overcome inertia with that type of extreme demand.

Or...Elon is secretly incorporating antigravity tech like TR3B uses, covering up the roadsters ability to instantly turn, completely stop IMMEDIATELY, change direction as if ricocheting, or just completely disappearing..
