Russia begins invasion of Ukraine - what now?

  • AFAIK there's no kill switches. The engines do download the engine readings real time. They can tell immediately when it hiccups. The engines on a 550 have an autorelight feature. If an engine starts to roll back it automatically turns on ignition and schedules fuel for start no matter where the power lever is. Maintenance sees that immediately. It's a very smooth relight and very fast. I've had crews that got calls from maintenance asking about the relight that just happened; crew hadn't even noticed.

  • Just goes to show that you should never put your business or investments into a place like Russia or China.

Speaking of China, they are awfully effing quiet so far, for the most part.

And to your point about investing there:

There was a post made on Superstonk, which is a subreddit forum for financial stuff, 6 months ago. It's really long, no exaggeration, but super informative on the history of china and it's economic/military philosophy/identity through each dynasty up to Xi.

The guy goes on to describe what he believes is China sucking in greedy investors, basically all of Wal-Street and London, and is fixing to pull the rug out from under all of them including the private China corporations.

    Talking trillions of dollars here.

After everything crashes, with the first domino being Evergrand, ...Xi's government swoops in and buys it all up for pennies on the yuan. They have been buying up gold for years and now they are snapping up Russian energy companies.

It's quite a read...most of it above my pay grade...but easy enough to understand the general gist.

I'll post in a spoiler and add a link to the original post:

CHINA MAY HAVE WON WORLD WAR 3 WITHOUT FIRING A SHOT

    • Official Post

The Chinese are godless bastards. They don't give one shit about anything other than advancing their own wealth or whatever it is they want.

The Chinese have no conscience. They don't care what they do or how they hurt people. I think they're just playing both sides of this to their advantage.

But why would they pull the rug out for everything and ruin everything when their wealth is based on the United States and other countries? If they crashed everybody's economies and fucked everybody nobody would be doing business with them would they?

Like I said, the article is long and peppered with financial jargon/acronyms that I don't grasp...but I was just trying paraphrase the main points from reading it last night.

The whole point of China is the long game....they have been a country with an identity for 3600 years. ...let that sink in, it's a really long time.

There is really only one economy now, IMO, and the fight is about who controls it. The article is suggesting that China is doing to the central banks exactly what they did to everyone else...and doesn't mind sacrificing some of itself in the short term for long term gain. They have been doing this sacrifice for centuries. There are several examples of Xi doing this in the article that are recent.

The west doesn't understand how they think and didn't understand the risks involved...now it's too late.

There is probably a much better way of explaining it that is like the way different Hedge Funds have taken advantage of market bubbles that they actually worked to inflate and then cashed in on the burst. This is just the mother of all bubbles.

We do business with the London controlled Federal Reserve...not because we want to and/or because they're such good guys...they aren't. We do it because they are the only choice. The theory in the article suggests that Xi has found a way to replace them by beating them at their own game and taking advantage of their own greed.

It's a theory not a guaranteed outcome...but it is really well written and full of insightful info on that particular culture and it's historical evolution.

Speaking of which, I just finished a 2 hour vid on the history of this conflict between Eastern Ukraine and the Nazi elements in the west of Ukraine. Tons of history there that no western media has ever focused on that paints this whole thing in a more complicated light. Anyway, the last 10 minutes or so went back in history to when Russia saved the United States from being attacked by England and France during the Civil War....England and France were backing the south and wanted to split the country.

It's the same thing with the same nations dividing and conquering in covert fashion.....fomenting civil wars and manipulating the outcomes. That's the deep state....the group that Eisenhower warned America about in his farewell address and so on.

I would not trust a single word from any western media about this now. They lied about COVID, gain of function, bio-labs, Russian collusion, vaxxines, WMDs in Iraq, 9-11 etc etc

I see no reason at all to believe they are suddenly telling the truth now because "Russian man bad".

Wag the Dog on steroids and Biden is in Xi's back pocket.

  • I would imagine that the a/c seized were covered by insurance and more than likely leased as opposed to outright ownership.

I wouldn't know about leased or owned....definitely insured.

But it's not money, IMO. Those corporations, whoever they actually are...whoever has controlling interest of major airlines, can't just replace 500 aircraft with a check from an insurance company. I doubt they could replace 10 very quickly.

That's a shit ton of flights affecting who know's what in the bigger picture?

If the airlines themselves had no problems dumping state of the art aircraft fleets (Delta grounding it’s entire B777 inventory ) what Russia did was simply a show of force. SoCal and other areas are full of a/c that are in flyable storage amd could be put back into service relatively quickly.

I'm just out the door right now so I can't link it but I just read an article, that seems very optimistic..

They were saying that intelligence analyst think that Russia only has about 14 more days of supplies for their military. They've asked China for MREs..

In the article they stated that in about 14 days that the balance is going to shift toward Ukrainian forces and that the Russians are going to be losing ground that they've gained already because they don't have enough manpower or equipment or supplies.

Apparently they've lost a shitload of equipment. Helicopters tanks whatever.

Like I said it sounded optimistic but I like to be optimistic!

  • Because he gains nothing in reality. He has no access to maintenance for the aircraft, crew training etc. They will make great gate guards or practice airframes for CFR crews. Great looking paperweights.

i don't know the truth about what exists in Russia as far as maintenance...but I'm fairly certain they have a few huge airports where maintenance crews exist. I'm sure they can take care of aircraft, man and fly them. I would question how they would acquire spare parts that go beyond basic maintenance....stuff that the current sanctions would quash. But given their growing connections with China, India and Iran, the world economic map could look quite different in 8 months

It cost them nothing to do this....it is not yet clear what the gains are.

Pretty big assumption. It’s not like taking your 1970 car down to the local mechanic or Boris’s World of Wheels. As the aircraft got more complex so did the maintenance. You can’t just run down to your local Jets Are Us store or order from the Jet C Whitney catalog for parts. I’m sure they have a very good maintenance teams but without the parts they’re fucked.

    I didn't state otherwise.

But I think from your condescending analogy it's quite easy to grasp the origins of your ire.

Leave me out of it . I just posted the story. I'm not convinced it's a dumb move.

i don't know what it means...other than it's an interesting development.

  • First you have to have a need for these planes to fill. Drilling holes in the sky really isn't a need. My question is what do they think they are going to do with them?

Maybe it's a long range goal?

If they are viewing everything from the perspective that BRICS is in the process of ending the petrol dollar and thus crippling the economic fluidity of the "West".....these planes could prove very useful in the years to come. I would think that ,even if they are not successful in that goal, they still have an eye on that future and would be looking to acquire any hard assets.

Whether they use them in Russia...or sell them to other BRICS nations down the road.

I sure don't know ...but there is lots of room to speculate.

  • My apologies. Didn’t mean to upset your morning. Just tried to offer a different view.

  • The prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia are in Kyiv right now meeting with the president of Ukraine. This could get very complicated very fast.

I was hearing about this this morning when they were on the train . It's an incredible display of support. Amazing. High risk train ride into a war zone .

Think about what might happen if they are hurt? Or what if they decide to stay for a week? What would Russia do?

    I think it's great.

    Fuck Russia
