Really cool! I see you!
How many of the crew would actually be on one of the planes?
-
Standard mission was 2 pilots, 2 navs, 3 EWO, 2 IMT (Inflight Maintenance Technicians), 24 Security Service (Linguists for the area of that mission) 33 Total.
-
Wow that's incredible. I didn't know that many people were on board.
Really cool!
-
Had just turned 10 the day before.
Thanks toad for keeping weird beard under watch.

Ft Fisher AFS volunteers. SAR, Extrication, pumper ops and general hose management. Oh, and a shitload of cleaning afterwards. I’m the tall guy in the back with the groovy mustache. It was a radar site, my primary job, but all helped out when needed. I also worked at the club and Rec Center.

As they say at Chik-Fil-A, It was my pleasure. My old Wing King sent that around this morning wondering where we all were now. Mostly retired. Some dead.
-
Yeah, same here. Guy to my right, Doug, passed away earlier this year. Guy in front of him passed away 5 years ago. 3rd guy from the right in front passed away last month.
We have a reunion scheduled for next year, sure hope everyone else hangs in until then. Those guys were younger than me and in fair health, should have outlived me.
-
Your pic is small and a few are tall. Hard to tell exactly.
And yeah...do not send to ask for whom the bell tolls because it'll soon be tolling for us.
-
Small?
Google ‘Ft Fisher AFS fire department’ to see a full size pic.
Jan 1990. Working with the DEA to bust dope runners.
Guy to my left succumbed to liver cancer not long ago. The rest are still kicking somewhere, as far as I know.
No uniforms, we needed to look like tourists. 100 feet away was a storage bunker with an M-60 and 12 M-16’s, just in case they figured out who was finding their boats with a radar.

No, I’m next to him.

Those are great. We never took many photos. Still don't.
-
Me either. I kind of regret that now.
-
I had a photo of my long dead big brother opening his Lionel train under the Christmas tree in 1953, fucking lost it. That train is on the ceiling and my dining room right now
-
Now that everyone carries a camera around wherever they go, photos just don't have the same value that they once did. Remember the torture of being invited to someone's house to look at their vacation album? Or worse yet.. Their vacation slide show?
-
Nope. I declined.
