You bet it's politically driven. Especially when you consider that those most militant about masks and vaccines now are the same who were anti-vaccers (as far as school enrollment) as little as ten years ago. They will tell you that it's because they have the ability to "evolve their opinion" but it's suspect due to the political nature of the subject.

The Covid Vax/Masks may have worked, or may not have worked, but it really never mattered.
They were both used as a process for conditioning the populace for Loss of Rights and Normalization of Tyranny & Authoritarian Government.
It matters not one bit if they actually worked or not.
It's like a chick got raped, and her mindset is all about whether the morning after pill worked or not. She is missing the point that she got raped.

It's like, if you build an entire premise that the vax/masks didn't work, you play right into their hands.
Why ?
Because you are actually justifying their behavior on whether the remedy worked or not. So if they had a perfect vaccine, it would excuse what they did.
The point is what they did was both wrong and illegal, whether or not the remedy worked or not.

Funny how very few folks were upset about vaccines until the covid BS. Personally, I kind of like being in a place where typhoid, diphtheria, cholera, rabies, TB, polio. measles, mumps and several other nasty things are no longer prevalent. Pity some folks have a misconception that medicine and doctors are quite infallible as well that to date no one can predict a bad reaction by any specific person to a particular vaccine before the fact.
Don't get me wrong, I am not happy with the covid vaccine BS but IMO that was more politically driven than "science".
You're right, it was simple accepted before, and people who questioned the ever-growing regimen of vaccines were laughed out of existence. They've fucked themselves now
