Our youngest went to college for about 10 days and owes $5700.
That bill includes almost $1100 for health insurance she didn't need because she was already covered, athletic and parking fees...she doesn't play sports and doesn't own a car, among other things. Actual tuition was roughly half of what she now owes.

With the combined effort of Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis and the 1776 Project PAC to buttress them, conservative candidates across the state of Florida flipped many school boards from blue to red in Tuesday’s election.
DeSantis has crisscrossed the state stumping for conservative candidates in school board races while the 1776 Project PAC issued a list of their endorsed candidates. DeSantis endorsed 30 candidates; 25 of them won.
“We were able to win school board victories all across the state of Florida,” DeSantis said in the aftermath of the election. “Parents are sick of the nonsense when it comes to education.”
“We saw massive election victories all throughout the state of Florida tonight,” 1776 Project PAC founder Ryan Girdusky celebrated to Breitbart News. “It shows the desire of parents and residents across the country for some normalcy in our education system, and that means pushing against transgender ideology, critical race theory, critical gender ideology, and equity which destroys merit in education.”
The school boards of Sarasota County, Clay County, Duval County, Miami-Dade County, and Martin County all flipped to red.

I can see states fighting unofficially over water rights. The federal government is rendering itself more ineffective militarily every day. If it cannot force states to toe the line local "wars" could break out.

The inflation in college / university came about after president slick willie decided that the feds should start investing in student loans. Either as a guarantor or as a source of loans. Once the education sources noted the money trough was declared open they immediately started raising prices for tuition and fees because they knew uncle sugar was on the hook and money was getting real easy to obtain. They reap the profit and have zero risk because the students after being convinced that college is the sole source of a good career and wealth would accept the loans in ANY amount and fork the cash to the schools.
